A glorious day here, real T-shirt and shorts weather.  When we have good weather at the end of September in Welsh it is called ‘haf bach mihangel’ – Michael’s Little Summer – St. Michael’s Day being on 29 September.

It is unbelievable, when I think that I was wearing a thermal T-shirt last week – although sadly not because of the cold weather, but because  I have damaged my upper arm and torn a muscle, so the thermals were an attempt to keep it warm! In some ways I am relieved that it is a torn muscle – when it first flared up I was concerned that it was a frozen shoulder as the whole shoulder and upper arm was locked up and painful – but its not (phew).  Anyway – a visit to the osteopath unlocked the shoulder and neck and now I am left with an incredibly painful arm and some enforced inactivity …. no lifting …. or digging, or dividing, or heaving large pots around, no trolling around with full watering cans, or cooking!  ooops!  I just snuck the last one in!  But fair play Shedman has done all the cooking and clearing this week.

Now that the pain is not filling my head completely, I think a few days of enforced non gardening will be rather nice.  I had lunch with a friend today and together we made a right pair – she had not one but TWO heat pads on her sore back – and I was popping painkillers and rubbing pain relieving gel into my arm.

My big disappointment is that I was going down South this weekend to meet up with some old school friends, and see my children and grandson, but have been advised against doing such a long drive with my arm as it is.

However the upside of the injury is that I am well ahead in preparing for a textile workshop that I am teaching in November and enjoying some studio time – thread and fabric being lighter to manipulate than soil and plants! Another upside, this evening Shedman and I actually went to the beach to watch the sun go down.
