I love you guys – thanks for all your great comments on my last post about the interminable rain.
Much appreciated
Today was a fabulous day – just the best sort of December day.
I planted
Tulips – Spring Green in the garden
Various other tulips in pots
Cotinus coggygria Royal Purple (smokebush)
Philadelphus (Mock Orange) unknown variety I took it as a cutting a few years ago
Ligularia Osiris Fantaisie – a nice compact ligularia with dark leaves
Innumerable primulas
Houttuynia cordata
And one or two other bits and pieces.
No …. I haven’t been on a shopping spree they are all things I have been growing on for a while, or cuttings or divisions.
The day was fabulous
The sunset stupendous
And my tumble drier arrived!
Have a great weekend
I will – our weather forecast is for sunny intervals
Yeay

Karen:
So happy to see that Mother Nature has bestowed upon you such a gorgeous sunset – spectacular…. and what can be better than getting things planted out – what wonderful therapy!

I am happy for you Karen! I need to plant my last tulips, but it’s too cold. You’ve done a lot! The beautiful sunset is a reward for your hard work. Thanks for sharing it with us!

I’m glad you had a good day at last!
The weather’s actually been fine here, some rain but for the most part we’ve had a fair amount of sun… Sorry
I couldn’t imagine having 47 days of rain! And I look forward to spring photos of all the bulbs and Primulas

I’m stuck . . . it’s been so wet here I’ve held quite a few daffodils back to plant when the ground is a little less than soup. The tulips are already in (your post a while back persuaded me tulips aren’t as boring as I generally take them to be and I’ve got some green ones too!) . . . so the order is all wrong but I’m assuming the daffodils I put in earlier may well have rotted. Until the last few days it’s been unseasonably warm as well as wet and not all slugs have twigged they are meant to have vanished. I’ve now bought potting compost to put some of the spare daffodils in. I didn’t want daffodils in pots but if I am to have daffodils at all I may have to do it that way and sit them above the ground or even start them off indoors. We’re thinking the trees, long term, may be grateful for the rain though. Swings, roundabouts and ferris wheels.

I’m so glad it finally stopped raining, and I hope your house dries out soon. It must be such a relief to work in the garden again. Your situation reminds me of the character from “The Hitchiker’s Guide to the Galaxy” – the trucker who is an unwitting raingod, and has lots of ways to describe rain. I felt a bit like you do in October, when it rained nearly everyday (but not quite). Your rain exceeded Biblical proportions (after all, it rained on Noah for only 40 days). It must have been such a delight to finally see a sunset.

What a gorgeous photo of the sunset through the willow… I’m so glad you got a break in the rain and got to plant things! Best therapy for a rain-soaked soul

Im glad you enjoyed your day yesterday. The sunset was good today as well!! See you tomorrow for a dry walk I hope.
Amazing what a bit of sun does for our state of mind. I went to Wisley and found their bulbs were half price – who could resist! I think they will all have to go into pots for the time being.

Stunning sunset. I planted my few tulips today and finally managed to take up the last of the summer bedding. It hadn’t all died which is frightening! Hope it’s nice tomorrow. Dog duty and walks. Both require dry weather!!
PS – next time we are in for a long spell of rain, can you order a tumble drier earlier rather than leave it until day 47?
I think I remember the day my new tumble drier arrived with the same fondness as the days my children were born.
It was a lot less painful and infinitely more useful too…
Am v. jealous of your Ligularias. I have ‘Marie Britt Crawford’ left over from my Chelsea garden and I adore its leaf colour but it’s really too dry in my garden. Wales appears to have stolen all the rain.
I am impressed with your planting achievements! We had a lovely day here too, just sunny and bright and perfect. I thought I had finished off planting my tulips today but have just found another couple of bags left from the ones I lifted last year. I swear they breed.
Here’s to another lovely day tomorrow!

What an amazing sunset. The weather has turned here, too, but I have a stinking cold so don’t feel like doing anything apart from lying in a heap. I read your list of planting achievements and had to go and have a Lemsip!
