  • Wrong kind of Snow? January 14, 2010
Remember in 1991 when we had the wrong kind of snow for British Rail to keep the tracks clear, well I have the wrong kind of images for the image editing workshop! No seriously, amongst my 1,000’s of images - I never seem to have taken photos of interesting doorways, signs, vintage writing or wonderful faces.  [...] […]

page_2

It is that time of the year, when the very successful “Emsworth Online Village Show” returns to a blog near you.

Emma T. (and her committee), despite still recovering from last years adventures at the village show, have launched Emsworth 2009

This is THE place to show off your garden produce.

The are about 22 categories available for you to enter, from “Allotment show off – the prettiest veg”

To “Sweet little baby animals

There are also lots of cooking type stuff categories.

So …  Go take a look, and send in your pictures.

All the details are on the Emsworth Online Village Show blog,

And, if you want to see the fierce competition from last years show take a look here.

Don’t be shy – as Emma says, all categories are open to all.

My thanks must go to

Helen, Patient Gardener

and My English Country Garden

for appearing (without their prior knowledge)

In this, the 11th  edition of “An Artist’s Garden Comic”

  • Another beautiful comic from you! We must ensure that you win – get Duckface to sample one of the ’special’ Fat Rascals prior to the judging. That should sort it!

LOL thanks Arabella – now I dont want to sway the judges in any way but …. what a good idea!

  • Fabulous! I should think that qualifies you to win about six categories all in one, not forgetting the art prize

Oh Victoria – I think that your son Rory has the art prize in the bag – he certainly gets my vote – so glad you enjoyed the comic

Fab post Karen – I think you need to enter this into the Art in the Garden category straight away!

Oh! … VP, I didn’t mean for this to be an entry – just an advert :)

  • Must pop over for a look but definitely not up for a flower arranging competition. The only thing I can do is put huge bunches of sweetpeas everywhere which is lovely but cannot be described as “arranging”.

But Elizabeth – you can do foody type things cann’t you? Do give it a go – loads of fun. :)

  • I love your comics. Your initial plan reminds me of generals fighting the last war. Next year, you need to bug the offices of the Emsworth Village Show to find out what the categories are, then get a head start on the competition. Or would that be unfair?

Mr. McGD – brilliant idea, that is what I will do next year, not unfair at all ;)

  • Dobby

Pink and girley flowers with soft petals and wafty bits are very overrated in my opinion. Give me strong colours with depth and pazazz every time. Good luck to all, but especially Karen (sorry but I can’t help being biased!!

Thanks Dobby – still working on my “theme” but as you know, the garden has been flattened, so may have to find cute animals to photograph :)

  • Duckface, eh? The categories are amazing! Who decides these things? I do hope you can put together a winning bouquet, Karen. And the comic should definitely be in the running. :-)
    Frances

Well Frances, The Emsworth Village Show is the brainchild of Emma T

I have my fingers crossed that I can come up with any bouquet, the garden is a bit of a mess with the weather :(

  • Ah, you Brits! Competitive gardening, eh? Just think of Wallace and Grommit… It almost ended in tears!

    (great comic, though)

    Competitive? Moi? (tee hee)
I love Wallace and Grommit, thanks for dropping in Town Mouse

My sister entered some shortbread to a garden show in Manston one year and won 1st prize. Then at tea time they decided to eat some. The next year they tasted the enteries before they gave out the prizes. She did laugh!! Maybe you could enter some silk pink girley flowers!!

LOL – I suppose that is one of the joys of a virtual show – no tasting required :)
    K

  • Fab comic! I’d definitely enter the rooster.

Thank you Rothschild Orchid …. perhaps I will :)
    K

  • Fab – that’s all I want to say!

    Thanks Dawn, much appreciated.

  • Very fun – I had exactly the same reaction when I saw it wasnt Sarah Raven. I dont have anything pink and fluffy. I was given some pink roses on Tuesday so I thought I might cheat and use some of those along with whatever I can find in the garden. But oh if it was Sarah Raven again I have some stunning Chat Noir dahlias, calendula and rudbeckias we would have a real fight on our hands.

Perhaps, then, it is for the best, I am not sure that I could compete with the Chat Noir! :) and I would hate to fight.
(But if I see pink roses in your entry I shall inform the judges that you have used BOUGHT IN flowers)

  • I had no idea that changing the categories would cause such heartbreak and misery! I thought it would be fun to have some variety! And reading some of the comments perhaps I should have kept in the ‘bunch of sweetpeas’ category from last year.
The comic has just made me laugh and laugh, though. I must say that I think the Rachelle de Duckface efforts are extremely wonderful, even if you did feel constrained by pinkiness!

I second that Victoria. Looks like we need some kind of fashion show and tell in the handcrafts section too – best gardening garment perhaps?

  • Slow to catch up ….I say, what a fabulous comic book ;-) You are clever,Karen and I stand by the witty and wise epithets too ;-) ….Im so honoured to be thought worthy…But Im too shy to enter a competition( though fiercely competitive in most aspects of my professional life and pub quizzes, Im not in gardening,,odd isn’t it ?LOL
