The 15th of the month – that time again, when we look at our gardens and see what is in bloom
This event is hosted by Carol at May Dreams Garden,
So if you want to see vertical plants – do pop over there to see who is participating
If you want to see plants at angles of 45 degrees, then stay here.
We had lashing rain and wind in the night,
So today, both me and my garden are feeling …. well, pretty crushed.
Wind is always a challenge when you garden near the coast, but this August has really been the pits weather wise.
The picture below, is how the flowers in the garden were looking on the 10th August, when I picked two large buckets like this.
To see how the garden looked this morning, please click on the picture for my sideshow.

Oh dear. My sweet peas migrated to the leeward side of the teepee and I had to chop off the tops. They had bent and broken. My only other real casualty was my hydranga. That is very flat now. I guess that one consolation of having a small garden is that there is less to be savaged by the wind. Apparently we are going to get some sunshine again on Tuesday. Where is that bar-b-q summer we were promised?
Quite an assortment no matter which way they were leaning!

They look as right as rain Karen to me Karen
We had wind all day and some wet stuff early this evening but not enough to do any damage. Would like to know how tall does the rudbeckia ‘Cherry Brandy’ grow ? May be a suitable replacement for the yellow peril in my garden.

Oh, your poor garden – I hope it’s just crushed blooms and not any more serious damage. I have lost some plants to the wet this year, but I’d still rather have rain than the humid heat we’ve got here at the moment.
A belated happy birthday, btw!

It may be horizontal but it is still beautiful. It looks VERY WET in the background of some of those pictures! Enjoy your bloom day.

Gail, I love your slide show. I have a great stand of those vigorous anemone, too. How do you keep them in bounds? (Or do you?)
It’s beautiful your way! The next-best thing to actually being there.

Sorry about your garden. I had the same problem with heavy rain/strong wind last week. Most of my hollyhock had to be cut down. I had a lupine that broke right off and delphiniums that bent their stems. My flowers took a beating, but not my gardening spirit. If I tilt my head, the laying down daisies and flat sedum still look pretty. Of course then I look silly. I hope your plants and your spirit lift soon! That bouquet is so awesome! What beautiful flowers. Good Luck!
So the myth about rain and Wales is true! I think you should give an award to the plants that remained vertical. The blue ‘Love in a Mist’ looks very chipper for such an apparently fragile flower – or did you rotate the pic
.
I do like your Cardoon, I must get one.

All that wet looks so good. I’d be happy to trade my vertical plants that droop in the middle of the day from heat and dryness for your soggy verticality. To me, your garden looks heavenly.

Love the stunning bucket bouquet of dahlias, zinnias and rudbeckia …. and your other blooms are equally lovely.

A lot of my tall plants are still laying down since our rain last weekend. I’m trying to figure out how I’m going to mow around them. Thanks for stopping by my bloom day posting. I must admit, when I took the photo of the morning glory in bud I was thinking of you and how it was your style of shot. It’s amazing how much I’ve learned of photography by seeing what others are doing.

Don’t worry, Hampton Court gardens had reassuringly flattened flowers too when Helen and I were there last week. I love your sultry red colours.

How in the world did my comment for Gail end up on your post?? A mystery to me, and I’ll apologize. Your photo is so bright and pretty!

So very, very pretty, and I think in a sort of Japanese way that there is added beauty in them all being so rained on…
Still colourful Karen! Poor plants though. I always love your slide shows. We were hit with winds too on the 15th but I was out of my garden all day so didn’t see it take the battering

They’ve done vertical gardens to death at Chelsea – I reckon gardens at 45 degrees could be the next big thing…
Oh I know, I know! My beautiful tall white foxgloves which are remarkably still going are lying across the top of everything else and the hollyhocks are all doing a leaning tower of Pisa impression. Your plants are still beautiful though!

The rain drenched flowers look cool & inviting…lush! I’m glad Shady Gardener said ’slide show’ or I would have only seen the bouquet in front! Your photos are beautiful & I love the large format!

If you had just rotated the pictures, I would have never noticed!
I actually love these angles though. Very interesting.
Glorious riot of red! Stunning.
